Participation, on a local and national level, has been of great benefit for the young people we have been involved with over the years. Exposure to the different aspects of forestry has encouraged some to pursue a career in forestry; and, helped others make the choice that forestry is not for them. Several people we know have been able to get summer and temporary employment in the forest industry in our area. One young man in particular has grown in his public speaking skills and working as part of a team. Additionally, in our area where forestry is the main industry, we have seen the community rally around the team as they prepared for the state and national competitions. The organization and execution of the national event was nothing less than excellent and gave our youth the opportunity to compete with, and develop friendships with, others from throughout the US.
