Barb received a BSF in Forest Resources Management from West Virginia University in 1983.  She began her forestry career with the West Virginia Division of Forestry as a county service forester in Summersville, WV where she was responsible for landowner assistance, logging compliance and fire control.  She was promoted to the position of Assistant District Forester in Beckley, WV in 1987.  Barb and her husband then moved to Georgia where she took a job as a soil conservationist with what was then the Soil Conservation Service.  She worked with landowners on a variety agricultural and forestry related conservation issues in various locations in Georgia before returning to West Virginia in 1993.  She worked as soil conservationist and district conservationist for the Natural Resources Conservation Service before becoming the agency’s state forester in 1996.
 
Barb became involved with 4H forestry judging when she began coaching a local team.  The Lewis County 4H Forestry judging team has been quite successful under her direction.  She is a 4H All-Star and serves as an assistant 4H leader.
 
Barb and her husband and three sons live on a farm in Horner, WV.
